Friday, February 09, 2007Someone Still Loves You this Valentine's Day No valentine this year? You've picked a fine time to put your ardor in the hands of musicismyweapon: Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin adores you. They want to sing you sweet songs of mercy, pop anthems of beauty, and wish you a promising buenas noches.Haven't heard of them? You will. The rumble of their excellence is growing, and you won't be able to sit still provided you get your hands on their latest, Broom (2005), which is thankfully available again for purchase. Highlights include: "I am Warm and Powerful" redone from their 2004 release, Gwyn and Grace EP (only these darlings would release an 8-song CD and call/sell it as an EP); "House Fire" (you know i still find you dashing), and "Anne Elephant." Or, if you're like me and you own everything they've got for sale, why not join their monthly tape club? The Illustrious Aaron Benko promises a listening experience that rivals walking a magic wood in the summertime. These boys can't wait to meet you, so keep your eyes peeled for their midwest/east coast tour with Catfish Haven. They're nicer than your grandmother. They've got more talent than your most talented best friend. They'll impress you with their wit and gratitude: "The girl from Texas appeared at my door one day. She was holding two objects. In one hand there contained a large jar of some sort of edible substance, she did not say of what it was, or its origin. Inside her other palm inhabited the motion foreward. Now how was it possible that she had been able to trap the motion foreward you ask? Well it's very complicated to explain, but I shall try my best, otherwise I'd be wasting your time. First, one must close their eyes and dig deep inside, past the throat, beyond the lungs, drifting further and further inward until one has reached that large mal-coloured mass that has no name. Upon reaching said destination one must expect nothing, if one is to recieve at all. This being done the time calls for you to reach out with a hand of your choosing, slowly grasping what others can not see. Whence the eyes open the foreward motion should appear in the outstretched and still reaching hand. Grasp firmly. FIRMLY. hahahaha. We went to get something to eat after the initial conversation and followed it with a walk which endured slight miscomunication in which the girl thought I had requested to walk on the left side of the quary when indeed I had wished to be on the opposing. Things were settled and the sun set, thankfully not for the last." And that's just what they have to say in their spare time, between touring and recording awe-inspiring music that leaves you dreaming of: makeouts in high school basements /rounding the last corner on a long drive home / finding folded money in freshly laundered pants /waking up to the smell of spring streaming through open windows /a film that makes you want to stay until the last credits have rolled /staying up all night only to feel invincible for 24 full hours Someone may tell you you're on the right track to finding happiness. Someone may tell you you're the most fantastic person they know for introducing them to this band. Someone may compliment you on the sassy way you walk. And you can be assured this Someone will keep putting out songs that blend clever songwriting with infectious indie-pop. MP3 of the Month: Accident - Live and Acoustic on KDRU (January 2003) |
